RE: Advice on new truck?

I'll agree with the Tim Allen "Tim the Tool Man's" famous grunted MORE POWER! I've had the 5.4, and the V10, I finally went Diesel...and will never look back! Mostly because every time I look back it's because I'm looking in my rear view mirror at a gasser struggling up the hill behind me! :B And then I smile and wave goodbye! :W

RE: Help....Roo/Shamrock 233 vs Jayco 232

*Jayco 2 year warranty vs their 1 year.
*Jayco 40 years same family owned company vs Forest River 12 years.
*Jayco has the #1 best selling travel trailer line in the USA for the 4th year in a row. (Jay Flight)
*Jayco owns their own wood mill, for the manufacture of their real wood framed cabinets and real oak doors and drawers. Crafted by Amish woodworkers.
*Jayco makes their own furniture, mattresses, bedding and sofa's.
*Jayco has sold more than 500,000 RV's so far.
*Jayco's has over 1800 employees, 2/3rd's are Amish, and many are long term employees with 30 years experience.
*Jayco is having their best year ever, even after opening a 2nd factory...this is when other manufacturers are folding up and shutting down!
*Lot's of standard stuff comes with your Jayco, outside showers (try doing without that feature with 4 boys!) Yikes! I was #2 of 4 brothers...!
Electric Carefree Awnings, Name Brand appliances, LCD TV's GoodYear tires and brand name stereo/surround sound.
*Jayco treats you like part of the family. Really!
We're avid Jayco fans..that's what happens to you after have had nothing but great ownership experiences with the 7 Jayco RV's we've owned...so far! Have fun with your family, and take it from us (17 yo daughter, 19 yo son)...they do grow up too fast! But so far they still like camp'n with Mom and Dad!

RE: How to dispose of old refer

I don't know if this is in your county, but this MN Recycling center takes RV refrigerators for a $30.00 fee.
And a whole bunch more!

RE: New Jayco 31RKS

We always took the kids with us when picking out a new Jayco (We're on # 7 currently!) for their input, and it was always so thrilling to bring the new RV home and load it up. I don't think we ever had enough kitchen counter space! When wh got our current 29.5 BHS JayFlight, since it was our first 5er, we too were dumbfounded and amazed at the way it just swallowed up all of our camping stuff, and still had a bunch of space left. In fact almost double the storage room. Best of times are ahead for you guys!

Congratulations on the new Montana and Truck! And you got a great hitch also! The bed mounting point for the 7 pin cable is what most people do that I know. Post pics when you have time. ;)

RE: Does TANG clean a stained toilet bowl?

When in doubt...Read the owners manual!
Thetford- "What should I use to clean my RV Toilet?
Your toilet, sinks and showers should all be cleaned in the same way: We recommend using a soft sponge or cloth and a high-grade, non-abrasive cleaner such as Thetford's Aqua-Clean.
Do not use a highly-concentrated or high-acid content household cleaner, nor those containing abrasives, such as a scouring powder. They may damage the seals or plastic parts of the toilet, along with the seals on your dump valves."
If needed, I use a bit of "AquaFresh" toothpaste on a soft diposable towel, rinse completely then put a coat of automotive wax on the bowl, As they say..."Slicker than _ _ _ _!"

RE: Another Newbie

Kit made some sturdy trailers, Road Rangers are common around here, one is parked across the street from me in my neighbor's driveway, a TT complete with a street side and curb side door! It sounds like you got a bargain! Congratulations! The late 70's to mid 80's were good times for RV's, and they were well made if a bit heavy. Craftsmanship was still being done by Amarican workers, and "Made in China" was rarely seen except on kids toys! It's good that you are good with tools, it really comes in handy if you own a rv of any year! Best of luck! And post some pic's! :)

RE: Scangauge

ScanGuage is more versitile, user friendly, has more functions, easier to read the display, can easily be upgraded by the company website...and can save real money when driving by giving you accurite fuel consumption, engine performance and turbo info, as well as fluid temperatures and pressures. Y=This thing can save your engines life! And I used mine on my son's 1997 Escort to diagnose the dreaded "red light on the dashboard" syndrome! It was an oxygen sensor, I saved $120.00 replacing it myself.

RE: San Diego - anything to be aware of?

Look up any area you are interested in the USA, search "Crime Maps", then look under San Diego crime maps and you'll get a great idea of crime by type, city, tourist destinations, etc.
As in any urban area, you have to work on not becoming a victim, be aware of your surroundings, try to look like you know what you are doing, act confident and keep your valuables to a minimum. Then relax and have a great time!

RE: Caution - Never buy Scientific Oregon Stuff

Ambient Weather Top 500 e-retailers,in the USA , and they have a line of electronic remote temperature devices. They are not entry priced junk, and sell to the US weather service some very high end equipment, as well as home weather stuff from $13.95 and up.

RE: More expensive, why?

Compare an entry level TT with an entry level 5er. Rather like a Hertz rental car Chevy Aveo and a Malibu LTZ...they both have 4 wheels, an engine. But just not the same! Ammenities, quality, frames and suspension, etc. That's what the additional $$$'s get you!

RE: Lubricating locks

From Slip Plate ref. Locks- Do not use WD-40 on your locks as a lubricant, WD-40 is a light lubricant and not recommended for use in locks. WD-40 stands for Water Displacement & 40 stands for the amount of times it took them to get the right formula. WD 40 and other petroleum products will dry and gum up the works. Locksmiths don't want you to know that! So what to use? Lubricate your home and auto locks with a dry lubricant such slip-plate or other dry graphite lube at least once a year.

RE: HOW HARD IS IT TO TOW A 40ft 5TH WHEEL?

Is this what you're looking for? Basically to be set up on property semi-permanently. These are 11,700 lbs 2 axles, 41' long, they have this model and one with a bunkhouse, 2 year warranty, lots of standard stuff, Jayco Bungalow 40FLR HERE and around $33,000.00.
If you want to use it after the house is built for a regular RV, a fifth wheel trailer would be great, as they can be lived in, and with up to 3 or 4 slideouts, plenty roomy for living in, yet small enough to be able to get into campgrounds! Roomy 3 slide fifth wheel Good luck!

RE: Bright LED Signs...

Down on the I5 FWY in Tustin and Irvine, the car dealerships have big ones! They are very annoying at night, but when it's raining it literally blinds you! I am currently researching CalTrans and CHP accident figures for the area, as so far in the past few years, CalTrans has steadfastly held to the benefits of the signs outweighing the bad! They are refering to the reciprical agreements that they cut with the Dealers that supposedly allow "Public Safety" messages to be shown. Never seen anything on these "billboards" that save as many lives as are lost or property damage being done by the wrecks being caused from the drivers being blinded by these garish "Las Vegas" style giant eyesores!

RE: Whose insurance?

It actually happened on this forum a few years ago, when a man and his son bought their first fiver, a used one from a lady who had just lost her husband. Paid $15,000.00 cash for it, and the man had a "friend" tow it to his home for an agreed upon price of $250.00. Less than 1000 yards from his home, the RV wiped out one whole side on a tree. No insurance. $3500.00 damage. So sad!
